There are now Kids Classes too! I provide all machines, but students may bring their own , as long as they are in PERFECT WORKING ORDER.
This class covers the basic functions of a lockstitch sewing machine, parts vocabulary, everything you need to be a successful stitcher. The objective is to make sewing fun, accessible, and easy to understand. Whether you are a beginner, you took a class 30 years ago, or just need a refresher, this is THE course for you. Informative handouts and materials are included. 2 hour class.
When there are enough people who have completed the first course who are interested in more basic instruction, I offer classes on simple sewing projects, like scrunchies, pillow covers, or pajama pants. Fabrics are provided and pre-cut. Photo and word instructions are included. 2 hour class.
Learn: basics of cleaning, oiling, and greasing; warning signs for bad electrics; and recommended tools, cleaners, and oils. Students should bring their own machine, but I can provide them if necessary. 2 hour class.
Learn: how to take measurements, understanding layouts, vocabulary, and a brief explanation of using 2D patterns to make 3D shapes. Variety of patterns will be provided. 2 hour class.
This fun class is aimed at making the most of what we have and saving some money. Its an opportunity to change a garment into something more appealing for the student. Students must bring a gament that they would like to improve or change. Materials are provided: fabric for patches, pockets, trims, and some beads. I will share ideas for better fit. Some basic sewing skills can be taught. This one relies on the needs of the class. 3 hour class.
Gather up that pile of mending and come to the class for help, guidance, materials, and maybe make some friends. What will be taught relies heavily on what is brought. Materials are provided. There will be sewing machines, but students may only use them if they have a basic working knowledge of them. What could be taught: patching, hand stitches for various holes, creative problem solving, and what I like to call, "If you can't fix it, feature it." 2-2.5 hours class.
Kids make their own masks from fun foam. Think something between a bandit and Mardi Gras. Parts will be pre-cut for easy handling. Kids will: 1) choose a design; 2) assemble the parts; 3) attach the strap for the back of the head. 2 hour class.
Kids will learn to hand sew while making their own stuff bag. Parts will be pre-cut with stitching holes. Materials and tools provided, including a variety of patch making stuff so that each person can decorate to suit themself. 2 hour class.
